review 1: I really wanted to like this book. The setup is intriguing, and I thought the issues presented at the beginning at the book had a lot of promise. As soon as Jessie gets her idea to volunteer, it all goes downhill. I understand that the narrator is a teenager, but are teenagers really this irrational and short-sighted? By the end of the book--honestly, by midway through the book--I just disliked Jessie. That made it really hard for me to stay invested in the book.

... moreh is only triggered when a woman gets pregnant; eventually killing the woman. Potentially leading to the extinction of mankind if no cure or alternative for giving birth is found. It's a bleak and morally ambiguous world. I didn't enjoy the writing style but there is plenty in this book for a stimulating discussion whether themes, symbolism (plenty to be found!), character development or lack thereof etc. less
