review 1: 11/14/14 I have read 45 pages By: Janette RallisoOne of Annika's friend always complains on new years. Annkia doesn't like her friend complaining all the time. One day Annika said something mean about Madison Annika's friend. She went in and hid in the bathroom. She didn't come out of the bathroom for an hour. Annika wished that she didn't say that. Annika has a little brother named Jeremy. He always wants her to play with her. Quote: "Annika said, Madison is annoying when it comes to New years and if the rumors start to spread it is going to get to her and now i wish i and never said that" . This relates to me because I might of said some mean things about my friends and I wish i could take it back. 11/21/14 I read to page 65 By: Janette Ralliso I read Chapters 5-6, ... moreMadison had forgiven Annika because she missed being friend's with Annika. Annika and Madison were going to apply for jobs at McDonald's. They got the job but they still had to get someone to show them around and show them how it goes around there. Their manager's name is Mr. Raleigh. Annika and Madison thinks Mr. Raleigh is so helpful to them. On their day off of work they like to go interview people. Madison was trying to get in the V.I.P. area but she couldn't get up there. Quote: "Annika and Madison said, Mr. Raleigh is so helpful showing us around." This connects with me because my teachers are helpful to me like Mr. Gardner.
review 2: I've got a stack of books in my "to-read" that are just calling my name. As Just One Wish is officially overdue at the library, I decided to read a chapter or two to see if it was worth keeping, or if I should just return it. One or two chapters turned into 2:30 in the morning! Aanika is a determined, fearless and fiercely dedicated to her 6 year old brother, Jeremy. He's been diagnosed with cancer and his upcoming brain surgery to have his tumor removed has sent Aanika into overdrive. She's determined to will him into good health with positive thinking. She devises a plot to have him wish for a successful surgery, but it goes askew and thus begins her trek to track down Jeremy's hero; the Teen Robin Hood for a real-life visit. I was laughing out loud, repeatedly, at the over-the-top measures Aanika took to make her brothers dream come true. Although somewhat far-fetched and unrealistic, I LOVED reading about Aanika and her dedication to her brother. The lengths that girl went to . . . Wow! Steve, aka Robin Hood, turns out to be a decent sort of fellow, after quite an adventure. I liked the dimension we got as we delved into his family situation, and the intuitiveness of both Aanika and Steve. I thought the characters were fun and likable. I appreciated the focus on families and their importance. Even though Aanika struggles with her relationship with God during this trial, she grows and comes out stronger in the end. Which is one of my favorite traits of a MC!It's late and quiet, I'm trying not to laugh too loudly; then, bam - I'm bawling. And trying not to wake anybody up and explain my tears at this late, err, early, hour. And that's why I loved this book; it made me laugh and cry, based on love of one's family. During a rough time, Aanika does what she can to help, despite the ridiculousness of the situation she creates for herself. And it was such a fun ride! There was some romance, but that took a backseat to the relationship between an adoring sister and her adorable little brother. Totally CLEAN - no language or violence, some kissing, mild Christian theme - not preachy. Despite the seriousness of the subject matter - a 6 y.o. brother with cancer, this story wasn't overly heavy. It was a fast, fun read that was wonderfully insightful, enjoyable and reminds us of what's truly important in life. I'd highly recommend this book! less
