review 1: This book was a Texas Blue Bonnet Award nominee, and when the nominees came in, the librarian at our school wanted one teacher to read each book. I chose this one simply because it looked awesome. Could it be a crime mystery for kids starring detectives who are platypuses? Yes. That is exactly what it is. It had me guessing and trying to sleuth just as any detective stories for adults would, and it was very reminiscent of Dragnet or the old pulp detective stories, which I love. Very good book for kids.
review 2: This book reads like an adult crime fiction novel but is clean and playful for kids. I absolutely loved this book. The characters are fun and complex. I like the city and settings of the book. I like how the author designed his city to have various leve... morels of socioeconomic divisions as well as areas that are zoned for different activities- very realistic. The clues are intense, and this book keeps you guessing until the end. I read it in a day, and loved it! The art in the book works really well with the story. Not just as fun pictures, but the drawings work with the storyline. This is a fantastic middle-grade but a great read for anyone! less
