review 1: 3.5 starsI received this as a free book from Amazon and had not previously read any other books by this author. Wilder certainly does know how to write and for the first part of the book I loved her writing style and the way she developed the main characters - Ever and Caden. These two are both artistic in nature - Caden loving to draw and Ever to paint. They met while mid-teens at a camp geared towards developing their artistic skills. Although they didn't spend much time together at camp, on the few occasions they did spend together they were drawn to each other and when they left camp they agreed to be pen-pals.Ever had lost her mother to a car crash and her father had never really recovered leaving Ever and her twin Eden pretty much on their own as far as emotional sup... moreport went. Shortly after Cadens return home from camp, he discovers his mother is dying of breast cancer and after watching her painful death, he also sees his father turn to alcohol and completely abandon him. The letters these two share are a life-line to each other and it is beautiful to see the openness and honesty of their letters as time goes by.Some years later, after more emotional trauma's have hit both of them, Caden in a state of real emotional upheaval suddenly appears on Eden's doorstep and they recognize and declare their love for each other. I loved the book up to this point but things went downhill from there. The author chose to put lengthy descriptions of their sexual activities for a large section of the book after this. They were graphic and used language that I really was not very comfortable with. I found myself skimming trying to get to a point where plot would once again come into play. I have no qualms with some description of sexual activities, but I found these extreme and that they detracted from the story and made me like the characters less. When things finally did get back to dealing with life beyond sex, the author left the ending at a very dramatic point. I knew upfront that this was part of a trilogy so I can't really complain. As I said at the beginning, the author clearly does know how to write and unlike some kindle books, this one was relatively free from typo's etc. I would read another book by this author but would hope not to have it fall so much into the erotic genre (which wasn't clearly indicated in this one.)
review 2: 5++ crazy ass starzWhat the hell is jasinder trying to do to me. I feel like I just went on a roller coaster! And the ending.....cliffhanger! Shit. Gimie book 2 QUICK! Caden oh God he went through so much so young. I was bawling my eyes out for him. Ever I love her. My days the ending had me wanting a bottle if vodka and some Valium loool. It was such a great read and as usual jasinder knows how to elicit all the emotions that the characters are feeling right into you. I have high hopes for book2. less

I really enjoyed this book. Too bad the next two books turn into something awful.
