review 1: I am currently reading this book after being given it for Christmas 2012 by a close friend of mine. However, I didn't start reading it until after I got out of a crappy relationship. In some ways, I wish I had read it earlier, but then at the time I was given it, I knew it was going to tell me more than a few things I didn't want to hear.Jason and Crystalina Evert have clearly spent a lot of time speaking to young men and women and teenagers all over the USA and hearing about their experiences of hook ups, giving your kisses away to the wrong people and trying to stay chaste in a world that think you're a prude if you don't serve sex up on a plate to the next 'walking hormone' that crosses your path. As the authors are Christian, a lot of the content is related to God and ... morebehaving in a way in which you stay true to yourself and your beliefs, and honour Him at the same time. However, there is a lot that everyone (particularly females, as this is who the book is primarily aimed at)could learn from this book if they have made mistakes in the past, stumbled or need a bit of reassurance in their beliefs. The Everts are straight to the point, and have a lot of great (and blunt!) chapter titles, and draw on their own lives as examples of things that have happened in their past, and how growing a backbone, getting standards and learning some hard lessons are massive benefits in the long term. To round off, I would say that reading the chapters as and when you need to, rather than reading the book the whole way through in one sitting is a better way to approach it. There is a lot of food for thought in each chapter, hence it being better to read it slowly and think about things. NB: There are a few typographical errors, although that is likely the fault of the Editor rather than the authors.
review 2: Self-Help/Inspirational books are probably my least favorite genre because more times than not the person who wrote their collection of tips and inspirations and got it published reveal themselves to be very self-righteous in their motivational tome - "just read my book and you'll be perfect just like me!" (Insert eye-rolling here) But, despite some annoying areas this book did offer some good things to think about and consider with regards to relationships and marriage. It also discusses at length appropriate ways to preserve your purity for marriage and why this is so important in this modern age. I'll definitely let my girls read it-I even highlighted it and made notations. :-) less
