review 1: Glorified YA with sex.Earning the Cut is a nice story about a kid who as a result of parental neglect, got placed in the system and thus, bounced around from one foster home to the other finally settling in a good home. His story includes his high school days, his first romance and his entry into the local MC club. I really enjoyed this story. It written YA/NA style which was very appropriate for the age of the main character. I bought book 1 immediately after finishing this prequel but the main female character grated on my nerves in the first 10%. Hard headed she is not - more like a rabid snarling dog. Constant "!" when she speaks makes me feel like she is yelling all the time = annoying. She walks into a biker bar looking for her sister and acting like they owe her som... moreething. WTF?Overall, I went off topic here but just to note that I liked this one but will not be reading the series, so I can not recommend it.
review 2: To tell you the truth, I did not see the need to make this book a whole book. It would have fitted as a chapter in any of the other books. However, now I know why this book was free...my point exactly.Nonetheless, having a better scope of Dax's background. His struggles, fears, limitations and more important his lack of self-confidence, a reflection of his hard upbringing...that ultimately, were the core of his bad decisions and little desire to improve in life. This book felt like an errand child, kind of out of place but hanging along with the rest of the family. less
