review 1: In the year is 2060, Jerry Reinhold murders his mother and father. He steals their money. Jerry finds out he likes killing and stealing and he is good at it. He feels that everyone has picked on him or stopped him from getting what he wants. Next, he goes after his girlfriend and brutally murders her. Eve Dallas is one step behind him, but determined to get him. It is near Thanksgiving, Roark's big Irish family is coming for the holiday, but Eve can't think of anything to the killer. Next, Jerry goes after a former computer teacher. Luck is with him, he is getting away with the murders. Eve has to take time from the case to receive an award from the police. Roark gets an citizen award. I like this book because Eve is learning to deal with Roark's big family and ... moresees her job as giving family members of murder victims peace of mind by finding the criminal who killed their loved ones. She is standing up for the victim. Eve is learning to show her tender side.
review 2: There are times I wish I could give a review of a series; more than book by book. And then there are times when I just HAVE to comment on an entire series. Ms. Robb's "In Death" series has been going on for a good while now. Three dozen books plus, and looks to be going on for awhile, according to her website comments. I can't give Thankless in Death 5 stars because the bad guy really creeped me out (I wanted to stop reading, I was that disturbed, but dammit, I wanted Eve to CATCH the b*st*rd so I wouldn't have nightmares...). But the rest of the book? Lovely, really lovely.Eve Dallas rocks. A strong female, with flaws and insecurities in abundance, and an instinct for solving crime that is well-nigh psychic.Roarke. Yummy, gorgeous, rich, totally confident of who he is. Loves Eve passionately, and is thereby willing to take a secondary role to support Eve without dis-empowering her.And...Peabody. and McNabb. Mavis. Summerset. etc. A great supporting cast.As the series progresses, the characters have developed, some have grown, many have changed. Some readers complain that the series is formulaic. But it is a good formula. I can pick up any of the books knowing Eve will have a crime or 2 to solve, she will interact with Roarke and her supporting cast, and eventually the important things will be taken care of. Usually with the crime(s) solved. And thank you, Ms.Robb, NO cliff-hangers! (OK, OK unfinished business, maybe, but that doesn't count.)So....Overall, I would give the series a solid 4+. I am thoroughly enjoying the ride-along with Eve and her world, and hope to settle down with another "In Death" very soon. Thank you, Ms. Robb, for the good reads. less

Interesting case, this is like watching a long-running cop show for me, I really enjoy it.

The torture aspects of this book were too horrific for me with very little to offset it.
