review 1: This is one of those books where the author relates some personal experience and draws a lot from other sources. What I like about this one is that a) it provides a very good overview and b) the sources Roth draws on are good (I've read some of them). This would be a great basic introduction to give to a young adult or a good non-overwhelming place to start for anyone who hasn't read much about personal finance.
review 2: I have to admit, every time I pick up a financial book, I am more skeptical of whether or not I have something to learn or whether this will just be a waste of time. I have gone back and forth on reading this one in particular because I'm a loyal follower of the website, Get Rich Slowly. However, this will be on my To-Buy list because it is ac... moretually incredibly useful. Yes, a lot of the basics and the themes are old hat especially to me because of how long I've been reading GRS. But, it is still packed with good information. The section car buying alone is worth the price of the book. It really is a manual. It's incredibly useful and practical. It's not an end-all be-all, but it is definitely one to add to a library. I'm not a highlighter but I found myself incredibly frustrated knowing I have to return this one to the library and was unable to bookmark and highlight things for future reference. It's a good book to have through the entire financial journey but I'm curious to see how it holds up over time. By the way, if you're a fan of GRS and like to refer to it when you have a specific issue or question, this book might be especially helpful. I always find GRS to be overwhelming when I search. The book has everything I've searched for in a much more refined easy to find way.Con: I have to say, the endless website references annoyed me. less
