review 1: This book was really different- the turtle and the hare are rappers and you read the turtles words slowly and the rabbits words fast which is fun because it actually makes you sound like a rapper, but my kid wasn't really into it and the plot is almost too elementary. First, Yaul says 'no' to everything and then he changes and starts saying 'yes' to everything, which the author may think is good, but doesn't seem like it to me. It didn't really encourage free thought or making decisions based on feelings or observations. It was just kind of like 'no' is bad while 'yes' is good which even for a kid is oversimplified. Also, some parents might not like teaching their kids words like 'def' but I thought it was a pretty refreshing departure from a lot of kid's books. My so... moren, Elliott, on the other hand was unimpressed.
review 2: I love Jef Czekaj's just weird enough Nickelodeon-y style of cartooning. So I enjoyed this book. But it was a little dense, textually and visually, and the whole premise of a grumpy porcupine who Hip and Hop manage to cheer up by sort of dubious means ... I just. Wasn't super into it. I do think it would be kind of tough to read aloud, too, with the words every which way on every page. I will say that has nice little in-jokes for parents who are fans of rap music. Moo Tang Clan? Ok. Sure. Why not. :) less

This was so cute. Lots of puns and plays on words and famous people. Fun illustration style, too.

Yaul, reluctant to join in the fun, is persuaded by persistent rappers, Hip and Hop.

A fun follow-up to Hip and Hop Don't Stop. The rap music references are funny.

I liked it better than the first Hip & Hop.
