review 1: What pulled me in was the simple fact that I grew up in Seattle and remember being scared of the green river killer. Knowing how "close" he was. I almost didn't read it though because I don't think it's right to glorify something this horrible. However, I learned that the author wrote this story to try to understand his dad better and to show his love for him. I really felt like this story was definitely more about the detective work. I appreciate that it didn't glorify the skum of the earth.
review 2: The best thing about the book is how the story is told. The narrative leaps from one point to another between the time Gary first stabbed a young boy to “know what it felt like to kill someone” and the final day at the courthouse. Now, non-linear narrative
... more in both cinema and books can often appear to be just a gimmick, but here it really works. The characters are believable, the violence is ‘measured; there is nothing that sticks out like a sore thumb. The artwork is not all that fancy. It’s black-and-white, very basic and grounded which adds to the documentary like realism of the book. All in all, a good one. less

I enjoyed reading the story from the perspective of a detective on the case. Very cool.
