review 1: I wasn't that impressed by the first volume but things pick up a lot here. World building out the way, interesting back-story to the fore. The set up pays off and we get to glimpse Gus's past with the implication that something fishy is going on. I found the contrasting pages focussing on Jepperd worked well and by the end I was more emotionally involved. I see the potential here. The art work is charmingly naive and raw and it's grown on me.I managed to get the entire run from the library so let's keep reading.
review 2: Couldn't find the first volume, but I really wanted to check this series out. Fortunately this chunk reads really well on its own. As I'm reading some of the other reviews it seems not many people consider the first volume vital. I still
... more want to read it, but from first-hand experience, no you don't really need it to get into and follow the main plot. Can't wait to check out more. I love the story and the loose, desperate, frantic drawing style. less

Covers many the same broad themes as Walking Dead, but Sweet Tooth is superior in every way.

Stunning. This took my breath away even more than volume one. Jeff Lemire blows my mind.

I love this series! Good/evil in every panel. Anxious to see what's next!

Another series I can't approach rationally. Great!
