review 1: I like a lot of Jeff Lemire's work, but this...not so much. I'm okay with the idea of reworking the Teen Titans, but the only thing that truly worked well for me was the portrayal of Starfire -- and while she's pivotal to the story, she's also barely in it. I was particularly thrown by Cyborg's bizarre flattop and the wacky Mad Scientist hijinks of his mother, not to mention the radical reworking of Deathstroke. And let us not speak long of the walking Native American cliche that Raven's been turned into. The book finishes on a very obvious cliffhanger (giving me more fuel for my contention that regular comics are doomed at DC, to be replaced by this kind of series) but I don't feel any particular need to look out for the second book. Which, sad to say, goes for *all* of the... more Earth One books to date.
review 2: Was never a big fan of the Teen Titans, but I love Jeff Lemire's work, so I had to try it out. Was not disappointed at all. Like the other graphic novels in the Earth One series from DC, this one reimagines the characters origins in a fresh way, with ties to a larger universe, while keeping the spirit of the comic's history. Very solid volume with even better art from the Dodsons. No mention of Batman or Superman, but the story is so self-contained that I had no problem with that. Looks like we will get the Doom Patrol in book two, so sign me up! less

I like Lemire's writing and ideas on this one but the Dodson's art really left me cold.
