review 1: A good short-story to tide one over until the next Rhyme and Sachs book appears on the shelf, this case lacks the extensive details of the novels but does not lack the excitement and suspense of Deaver's excellent series. This short actually adds to the characters and continuing story lines and shows a bit more humor than the novels generally do, although it is by no means a comedy. If you read the series, this is a nice addition to the overarching narrative.
review 2: There was nothing wrong with the characters, the premise, or the writing. However, there is an art to writing a short story that was not shown here. Short stories shouldn't feel like drastically truncated novels, and unfortunately that's exactly what happened here.
