The Clifton Chronicles
review 1: After reading the reviews for this, the second novel in the Clifton Chronicles, I thought a little harder before purchasing it. I am so glad I did. I enjoyed it just as much as the first book and have ordered the third. In fact, it has drawn me back to Jeffrey Archer as an author and I have purchased a couple of his earlier books also. The story continues the life of Harry Clifton and the Barringtons. While it doesn't move as fast as the first book, it definitely keeps the reader interested. I can't wait for the third book to find out the outcome of how the second book ended! It's so good to read a series of books again that is keeping me interested from start to finish!
review 2: The second chapter in the Clifton Chronicles turned out to be a pretty slow read.
... more The book has the obvious fingerprints of Archer's brilliance at many places but the charm is more or less countered by the drawling pace of the narrative at many places. The story is engaging in spurts, tedious at other times. I, personally, enjoyed the intellectual debate toward the end of the novel and think it was presented in a very incisive manner. However, the conclusion of the book didn't really leave me anticipating what's going to happen next (as Only Time Will Tell did) but on the contrary, turned out to be quite a bland affair. In any case, since I have embarked on this path, I will walk the distance. Hopefully, the next installment of this saga turns out to be more exhilarating than it's more solemn prequel. less
