review 1: This book takes you from 1945 at the end of world war II to 1957, the beginning of the space age after Sputnic. In our desire to surpass the Russians, the USA is bringing scientists from Germany to America and housing them in Huntsville, AL. These men were responsible for the success of the V-2 rocket in Germany and they are encouraged to build a rocket in America that will be launched as competition to the Russians. With these men came their wives, one of which is a violinist who forms a small ensemble to play for society. It is a major success. It has a surprise ending and if Jeffrey Stepkoff is willing, a sequel would be line.
review 2: Set in 1957 Alabama, this historical fiction novel has great use of flashbacks to WWII Germany in 1945. It is truly a
... morewonderful story that forces you to take a look at your own morals and ethics in everything from being faithful in marriage to standing up for human rights to religion vs. science. In this day and age, it is a very refreshing read, with characters making wholesome and moral decisions. My mother recommended this book to me, and we both read it in one day! I highly recommend it! less
