review 1: Morgan's life is still in turmoil: In the third book she's continuing with her role of keeping the demon king Lugh safe from his brother Dougal, trying to learn to live with him, working out her relationship with her boyfriend Brian who refuses to let go of her, despite the role he played in the last installment. (A painful memory Morgan is unwilling to forgive and forget.) However Morgan is also hired to look into the demon possession of a man who was known to be a member of God's Wrath; a fiercely anti-demon protest group. The more she looks into events, the less they add up. Might the possession of Tommy have more significance than just a straight illegal demon possession? This time there's also a lot more Lugh/Morgan interaction, which is a good thing: Sexy Lugh knows ... morewhich buttons to push, and almost against her will, she is starting to like him, despite his actions in the last novel. Finally we get to see some actual plans being made to thwart Dougal's royal coup and constant attacks on their lives, it's about time. Given her occupation, Morgan normally only been dealing with legal demons, even the legal ones have admitted they would kill their lovers or take human hostages should the need arise. But ever so slowly, certain demons are starting to grow on her. One scene in particular stands out, and surprisingly, it’s the ruthless SOB, Adam who manages to impress her. The way he stands up for Dominic was not only an eye-opener for Morgan, but for me as well. There may be more to him than just his loyalty to his king, and his love of pain. His choice may not have been the smart thing to do, but it was nevertheless very cute.And then of course, there’s Lugh, who seems genuinely hurt that Morgan distrusts him. Time to explore the sexy demon who co-inhabits your body, Morgan! He's temptation incarnate;-) There's mention in this story again of the BDSM club but far less graphic description than in the previous books, and I happen to think Shae, should get more page time as well. I really liked Devil’s Due, those who enjoyed the previous books will certainly like this one.
review 2: 3.5 stars. I have to admit that the main reason I love this series is the beautiful loving relationship between Adam and Dominic. In this book, Morgan even realizes that there's is the most healthy relationship she knows despite the BDSM. I'm not a fan of that myself but the way it's presented here, it does sound reasonable and healthy. I like that Morgan admits that even thinking of them together arouses her. As usual, Morgan's mouth needs an off button but several times she forced herself to stop and acknowledged that maybe she's growing up. I still don't get what Brian sees in her because she's so angry and abrasive and closed off but I love his character and I'm glad there's a wonderful male love interest in UF who's nice and not scary and yet very much a man, even amid the testosterone flowing around him in barrels from the other characters. I really wish they'd get another female main character but I see why Black doesn't want to upset the dynamic. The story worked for me and went on at a great clip. I read it in one sitting. I likes the character development--they're growing with each successive book and Morgan was faced with ethical issues this time around--but I think that Morgan's hatred of Adam is ridiculous and been carried on for too long. She keeps saying she hates and that he hates her but their actions don't back that up. His complaints about her are more exasperation than hate and mostly about her inability to stay out of trouble. I like this take on demons but it's important to remember that these are not Judeo-Christian demons; they're more like demons from Hindu or Persian faiths where there isn't necessarily a "good" counterpart and they aren't always 100% evil, just mostly. less
