review 1: Where to start... I like the characters as usual, but Avery's issue with Melissa is just annoying. And why does Derrik run to every request that Melissa makes? That whole thing is a bit annoying. I liked the plot but I'm not sure everything was cleared up in the end, although I could have easily missed it because I found myself skipping over the large chunks of history. I like history, but it was getting to be a bit much in this book. The plot was not the turn that I expected this series to take, but it was a very interesting direction to take the story. Continuing on with the rest of the series...
review 2: Avery and her boyfriend Derek buy a pre-Revolutionary War colonial house on an island over the coast of Maine. Their plan is to renovate it, a major task a... mores it had been empty for many years. They find a secret room in the house, in which there is a mattress and evidence someone has been kept in the room recently. The island had been used for smuggling going back to the early 1700's, and then again during Prohibition in the 1920's. There is evidence, including 3 dead bodies of young women, that would indicate human smuggling was going on today. Who are the smugglers and who are they smuggling in? less
