review 1: I always enjoy Jennie Bentley's writing, although I really don't like Derek and Avery. I did figure out the killer right away in this one, although I enjoyed watching it unfold. Avery was her usual annoying self and Derek brought himself to a new low with visiting a strip club and his continued open flirting with everything female. The end has a few interesting tidbits showing where the next book will lead with everyone's soap opera and I am sure I will buy it when it comes out, just like every other book in this series. There were some vexing moments in this novel, particularly with Avery's obsession with everyone else's business...for example, do we really have to see an old man jailed for insurance fraud while being so sanctimonious about illegal aliens? I really don't... more care about an art gallery faking a fire when illegals are stealing five hundred billion a year in social services on top of all the crime they are involved with. One steals from an insurance company while the other steals from every one of us, although some just aren't bright enough to understand that. Avery is a bit of a dunce. I guess she and Derek desrve each other.
review 2: 3.5 stars (3 for this book & 4 for series overall). I really look forward to reading each book in this series and have a secret crush on Derek! I really enjoyed the mystery in this one even though I saw some of the things coming a mile away - I still enjoyed the ride. I will note that Avery can be a little "much" at times. In previous books she was a little to insecure/jealous for my tastes and in this book she was a little too over the top in her snooping for my but boy do I still like this series so I will overlook it! less
