review 1: Mooi verhaal over joan stanley die op haar 87 ste jaar wordt ontmaskerd als spion voor de russen in de tweede wereldoorlog..Ze wist dat haar geheim ooit in keer bekend zou worden....In 1937 wordt ze bevriend met de russische sonya en haar neef leo, ze wordt verliefd op leo,eerst houd ze zich buiten hun politieke activisme,maar uiteindelijk als joan gaat werken in een geheim laboratorium om te gaan werken aan een bom.besluit ze toch de geheime informatie door te spelen aan de russen..dat komt haar duur te staan ze vlucht naar australië om een nieuw leven tebeginnen dat lukt ook maar op een dag staat de britse geheime dienst voor de deur.....
review 2: This book moves beautifully back in time as Joan is asked questions about her involvement with passing atomic ... moresecrets to Russia just after WW II. The sense of time and place is marvelously portrayed.Joan's anxiety about what her son will think of her actions and how she feels about what she did add depth to what could have been just another spy story.I found her reasons for her actions interesting and, as the author points out, very different from those of Melita Norwood. (Norwood's exposure as the UK's longest-serving Soviet spy sparked the idea for this book.)Great story, well-told. less
