review 1: The Mackenzie family has gathered at Kilmorgan Castle to celebrate the holidays with their family and friends and many things are happening. Daniel is home from university. Mac is working on a surprise portrait to give to Isabella for Christmas. The family searches for Cameron and Ainsley's young child when she disappears. Isabella's sister, Louisa, makes her move under the mistletoe with the Mackenzie's half-brother, Lloyd Fellows. One of Ian's priceless Ming bowls is accidentally broken by Beth. And Eleanor and Hart await the birth of their first child. This is a must-read for any fans of Ashley's Highland Pleasures series. I enjoyed all of the individual stories and the thoughtful gifts they gave each other for Christmas. I'm looking forward to Louisa and Lloyd's story. ... moreMy rating: 4 Stars.
review 2: Did I seriously wait to read a Christmas short till the summertime? Yes, I did. Because Summer is perfect for Christmas stories. Especially this Christmas story.(If you were looking for any ounce of logic in that sentence, well, there is none.)I am in absolute love with the Mackenzies. They are my favorite family next to the Bridgertons (JQ fans, represent). I need more of them in my life. For reals.Mainly more Ian, because he's my favorite. So it's good that this focused pretty heavily on Ian and Beth. Or maybe I just took it as following Ian and Beth pretty heavily because I love them so much. This is fantastic, though. The quality is great. Jennifer Ashley didn't just slap a Christmas short together for the sake of capitalizing on the Mackenzie family success. You can tell she put the time and effort into seamlessly telling multiple stories at once. While focusing heavily on Ian and Beth. She breaks his Ming bowl, okay?! That's a huge deal in the world of Ian, and he managed to not flip his shit. Granted, he was still the boneheaded husband who did not understand what he was saying wrong, but all husbands are like that.Men, you know. They just don't get it sometimes. But it was great to see how much Ian has grown over the course of the books and to have more insight on his thoughts. Like why he doesn't like his brothers to touch him but is okay with pretty women touching him. We get to see a lot more of Daniel hijinks too. I know, I've already read his book, but I love seeing him. Cam and Mac weren't necessarily as important. They're lives are pretty much smooth sailing at this point. Aside from that one instance where the baby got lost and was in the barn with the kitties.Just a normal day in the Mackenzie household. Hart and his panic of El's pregnancy and giving birth was very well done. After reading his book, it's interesting to see how he panics over his wife giving birth, the precautions he takes, his fear that she'll die having a baby, and how much El actually means to him. She was his one constant when his wife and child died in the birthing process. What would he do without her?All in all, I was very pleased with this. But I'm pleased with everything Jennifer Ashley writes. less
