review 1: I was disappointed in this book. I LOVED the other two books in the series. Again the characters seemed somewhat inconsistent from one book to the next. In addition, I felt that the majority of the book consisted of The two main characters having one giant pity party and selfishly hurting everyone around them. I found it very difficult to sympathize with the main characters. I still gave it three stars because Donnelly is a good author and the book still had some great qualities. This is the only one of the three I don't think I'll ever re read.
review 2: I really enjoyed this book, which is the 3rd of the 'Rose' Triology. Interesting to see the many trials and tribulations of the Finnegan Clan. There were moments when I did wonder how certain characters wer... moree going to get out of their respective scrapes. Fiona, who was the protagonist of the first 2, took more of a supporting role in this book, which centered around her brother Seamus and his love Willa. This book takes us through WW1. With Sid Baxter reappearing too. I hope Ms. Donnelly is going to make this grouping a quartet and bring us through the depression and into WWII, would love to see how the next generation lives. less
