review 1: I really liked this book because it has mythological creatures, gods and things that. Also at times it was a matter of life and death and somebody makes a bad decision.It is about mermaids and mermen and and a war between the water realms. Some of the realms have been so desperate that they ally themselves with terragoggs (humans in mermish). Also the mermaids don't have any time to think of whether or not they believe in dreams and the Iele (the river witches).
review 2: Deep Blue is not like your average mermaid tale. It has wonderfully vivid characters and there is really intense action, all wrapped up in its own unique world. That being said, there is a lot going on in the story; and I mean a LOT. It's almost too much to handle, trying to keep the charact... moreers straight when they just get thrown in at you. Along with cryptic and slightly random prophesies and a whole lot of new mermaid vocabulary, this book was almost too much for me to keep straight. Slight spoilers: The book was really great until the merls made it to the river witches; then, it lost its luster. Magic lessons along with five characters trying to be developed all at once made me loose interest. The climax was not very interesting and I lost all credibility I might have given this series. less
