review 1: This book would be a great book to read on the first day of class or during the first week of school. Kids sometimes feel as if they need to be different and just try everything new, and forget to be themselves. This book shows that it is better to be yourself with a unique twist. A great activity to do with the kids would be to talk about what they think makes them so unique. They can show it in any way,for example dancing, making funny faces, drawing it or anything else!
review 2: Sylvie is a story about a pink flamingo that wonders why she is pink colored. When she discovers that it's because she eats small pink shrimp, she gets an idea. She tries a whole bunch of different things and gives herself various different colors. At the end she decides it is fine
... morejust to be her in her pink natural color. The illustrations are great fun, they are a warm blend of hand-painted and digital art with a bright light-colored palette. I enjoyed reading this book. The question on which the book is based forced me to check whether it was true that flamingos are pink because of what they eat. And, indeed, their pink or reddish color comes from the rich sources of carotenoid pigments (like the pigments of carrots) in the algae and small crustaceans that the birds eat, according to the San Diego Zoo's Animal Bytes website. Quite interesting and the reason why the author decided to write a book about it. less
