review 1: Loved the hero in this one! Jack Fulton, younger son, tries to do right but is in a very sticky situation. But right off, even though he's attempting a marriage for money, we know he's trying to make the best of it when he selects Lady Rebecca. Unfortunately for him, Lady Rebecca has some pre-existing issues that create the main conflict in this story. I felt the characters were very well written and fully developed in their historical setting. Really enjoyed it!
review 2: The sheer rat bastardy of Rebecca's first (and long dead) husband has sworn her off marriage, even when she's caught in a compromising position with Jack Fulton. What she doesn't know is that Jack orchestrated the humilation hoping to wed her and get hold of her fortune so he can pay off an
... more unhinged blackmailer -- but, of course, once that course is set in motion he winds up falling in love with her for real...On the whole, it's a fairly conventional set-up, but Haymore's characterizations are effective -- except for the blackmailer, who reads more like a melodramati caricature of a psychologically unstable villain than an actual character with personality. And the chain of events that brings up about the final reconciliation, after all had seemed lost, didn't quite convince me, either. less

More like 2.5 stars. It was okay... I just did not get attached to the characters.
