review 1: Adorable and clever way to present the bird - we never do see it at all - we only see the carrot beak, the eye dot, and often the stick legs and sometimes the footprints. I love that we see only the shape of it against other objects, such as grass stalks and finally a butterfly. Solid colors, the green vine growing along with green leaves and an occasional yellow blossom lead us to the chrysalis. What a great art idea!Describing him as he becomes proud, escapes being caught, then uses his unique quality to help his friends along with the concept of invisibility are great starting points for group or individual conversation. I give the illustrations five stars, but the story three stars. I wonder is students will make the connection about understanding why he is special, a... morend I wonder about including the butterfly. Does the bird fly away? Why doesn't he fly previously? We wonder how he became invisible, and I have a vague sense without him having a name. I am reminded of Rosemary Wells' "The Disappearing Bag."This will be a fun read for K-4 students in the Maine Chickadee Award program this year!
review 2: This book is a book about bullying. There was a funny little bird and most of the time he was invisible and when he was seen other people would make fun of him. So the bird decides he's had enough and sets out on his own. Along the way he meets another bird who ingnores him, but the bird decides he's not going to let things get to him so he continues on his way. Along the way he realizes how beautiful the world can be and collects treasures. People start to notice him and he became pround almost to proud. When he realizes that this was why he was unique he embraced it and never showed off.Great use of colors. But the moral of the story is to be true to who you are. less
