review 1: Lovely characters with a vibrant past.I do think the beginning was solid and bulky with details, and everything just slowly faded (as if sun dried) toward the end. I wanted more, truly. There are so many perfect moments in this book, though, and I guess those moments are worth the read. The cuteness of the middle is just so... so relevant to life :) But Anna and Laurent's parts about love feel so sorely missing something. I feel that the writer had a deadline much too soon, and just hopped on the "get it done" express.But it was lovely and I really, really liked it. It's a fluffy read that has those sweet notes from Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe, and I wish there'd just been just a little bit more of the spicy parts (or that edge that's described for the chocolate in the boo... morek). I get the vibe of an adult book here, but it retreats from what could be an erotic scene... and a descriptive action scene. There are blank spaces around events that are never explained. And I'm rambling, but that's what I felt was lacking to me. The rest was smooth sailing (and I wish there was more!).
review 2: I did finally end up liking this book, but it takes quite a lot to get into it. I nearly took it back to the library after only reading the first quarter because I just didn't care... but like I said I did end up liking it.I was bothered by the main characters hyper focus on her missing toes and because of that I thought it strange she wasn't more bothered by the fact that she almost died from an infection in the hospital.I liked the eventual love story and the way the author shows how the main character has grown and is brave. less
