review 1: A vivid portrait of another time and place, not so long past, but which seems like another world compared to the pace of modern life - and yet remains real, and vibrant. Although some of the characters seem almost one-dimensional, the recurring themes of family, love, and the sometimes complex relationships therein pull it all together, and makes you care about what happens to these people - or at least, it did me. Recommended.
review 2: Beautifically written and difficult to put down, the author forced the reader to feel truly invested in almost every single one of the main characters. She wove an incredible tale, but may have done her work too well as I felt the stars slipping away from my rating as I raced towards the dark conclusion. I freely admit this i... moresn't a fair rating, but I just couldn't give it any higher after what she did to Swan and Toy and Blade and even the minor characters! less
