review 1: I walked past this several times at work and then saw the author at Denver Comic Con. He was sitting in his booth "doodling" and I was totally mesmerized by what he was drawing. When I got back to work, it was the first thing I pulled off the shelf. I really like it, because it is so different from anything else I've read in awhile. Bastian's illustrations remind me of some of the earliest political cartoons (which is appropriate the time is 1728) mixed with a fair amount of Hieronymous Bosch. The pirate speak is always a win with me and Cursed Pirate Girl is fearless in search for her father. Her parrot sidekick is also pretty funny. Can't wait to read the next one. This volume has wonderful interpretive illustrations from other GN author/illustrators that are not to be m... moreissed. I think this is a buy/keeper.
review 2: What an incredible book! Jeremy Bastian fits more personality into any given page than most comics are lucky to have in an entire run. One of the best all-ages comics I've ever read. I wish I'd supported the kickstarter so I could have secured a copy earlier. The next volume can't come soon enough, but considering the detail that goes into each page, I can wait. This is definitely a comic to share with my daughter when she's old enough. less
