review 1: The art is superb. Compelling and fun and a little like a treasure hunt - there are so many little nooks and crannies that even following the storyline can feel like you've made a secret discovery. The story is a conventional hero's journey/folk tale. There won't be any real surprises except that it doesn't really have and ending at all, not totally unexpected because this is only Volume 1. Overall, lovely to look at. I'm not sure if I was compelled enough to check out Volume 2 though.
review 2: I ver much enjoyed "Cursed Pirate Girl." It kept me interested throughout the entire book. I'd have to say the story deserves a 4 star rating since, in my opinion, it's geared more towards young adults and teens. (I'm not going to explain that any further though, becaus
... moree I'd end up spoiling it). However, upon adding Jeremy A. Bastian's Edward Gorey art style, the epilogue, and the artwork at the end that had a little after story with it, I feel I have to raise my rating to 5 stars. I also enjoyed that the book itself had a sort of texture to it. The cover had a sort of ripple texture like water and the pages had all torn edges kind of like an old pirate map. A very enjoyable read. less

marketed for teens, but clearly for a younger set. I didn't bother to finish it.
