review 1: The thriller "Second World", by Jeremy Robinson, had a very intense and exciting plot that kept me on the edge of my seat from cover to cover. If you like science, fights and excitement, I strongly suggest you read this. Once you meet the main character the story starts to become about survival in an oxygen deprived, horrific version of Miami but it quickly took a turn. Personally I think it should have remained about survival but the novel was great either way. You quickly become attached to Agent Miller (the main character) and the many people he meets on his mission from the president to save the world. The book involves evil plans, grueling combat, and many close calls which is why it is so exciting and gripping. I think that the action parts of the book were written e... morextremely well and the plot was very well developed. Each conflict that Miller encountered had you wondering about a solution, which he and his crew always solved somehow. Something else that made the book great was the overall looming sense of mystery. There are so many questions that you must wait for the answers. In conclusion this is an amazing book.
review 2: Proof that New York Times reviewers are biased by what is most likely financial gain. To call this book a page-turner is a disservice to suspense novels the world over. I don't need to be former special forces to shoot all kinds of holes through this plot. After suspending my disbelief for the third or fourth time I stopped counting and plodding along waiting for an ending which would make up for it all. It never happened. If you want more of a reality check, and a Nazi page-turner true to form, stick with Ken Follet. Since I've read every WWII Follet novel, my search for his equivalent continues. less
