review 1: Frankly, this story was a grotesque picaresque - in that it seemed that nothing but disgusting horrible things happened to everyone and there was no purpose to it. Granted, said brothers are horrible excuses for human beings. But even my distaste for them didn't make their encounter with exploding corpses and a shape shifting witch with a taste for (non sexy) kinky sex under the influence of magic potions very satisfying. Frankly, it put me off my lunch. The authors gifts for description is top notch, but the story itself didn't appeal.

... moreoody start to bloody finish. I especially enjoyed the brothers' frequent theological discussions, which while absurd are precisely as absurd as any other theological debate. Monsters, witches, murders, crusades and quests. Brilliant. If you're unjustly squeamish about language then you'll find this a very unpalatable book though, so check your prude level before beginning. less
