review 1: I was fairly happy reading the first half of this novel, particularly the brothers' trek through the mountains. I liked the fantastical monsters and evil doers undone by the evil brothers. However, the religious discussion and blaspheming in the book got tiring to read. Once I got to the end I didn't really feel or care about the brothers much at all. Yeah I get the ending, but.... Also, throughout the book things were confusing at times, like the author had ideas that didn't end up on the page. The creativity is there and hopefully the author will grow better at his craft.

... morelf at the store or library. I started reading and was addicted practically right away. Making it only through chapter 4 before this roommate moved away and took his copy with him, it then became my quest to track down a copy. When I finally managed to find it, I flew through this book! A medieval horror and comedy all in one, the most grotesque things happen, but not unlike a train wreck, I couldn't look away. For anyone who doesn't mind fantasy, and uh, extremely crude violent or sexual situations, I highly recommend. less

One if the best historical fantasy books I have ever read. Great at capturing historical context

The first half was good. Couldn't manage the last 4 chapters; life is too short.
