review 1: Ok. I had high hopes for this book. Even after the first 50 pages of chatter-y, superficial girl-speak that no one uses except on TV (which is semi-excusable, given the author is a screenwriter), I was holding out hope. However, after the initial plot idea, the plot steadily took a nosedive. Everything that wasn't totally predictable was ridiculously random and/or confusing, certain characters randomly had complete personality changes, even multiple times, and the whole "quest/test" feel toward the end was difficult to follow. By the time I got to the end, the whole universalism ideology being pushed was a little too crazed for me. Over all, the only thing would have kept me interested to the next book was the tattoo "mystery," and I was sorely disappointed to find I alre... moready knew what it meant. Not worth finishing the series. If you want the answer to the "mystery," keep reading.****SPOILER ALERT****Dum dee dum...Keep going!Anyone who has taken any Bible training knows that the Hebrew word YHVH (Yahweh or Jehovah) is "I AM"--the name of God. It is used countless times throughout the Old and New Testaments to describe both Jesus and the Father, introduced in Exodus 3:14.
review 2: Not impressed. Not, not impressed at all. Not a fan. This really could have been a good book - the premise had a lot of potential. But it quickly degraded into a sad mess of stuff that really didn't connect at the end. Talented, smart girl goes slowly out of her mind? Mother is best friend and then suddenly becomes the enemy? What the heck was up with her mother anyway? Did we ever find out?I was so disappointed, primarily because the story was so well set up. As I kept reading, I kept wishing I could just get to the end already. And then I did get to the end, which turned out to be just plain ridiculous. If you're going to attempt that kind of fantasy/sci-fi, then either do it well or don't do it.Most of the characters were generally pretty flat. They simply weren't developed more than in passing. Several sounded interesting - but after learning a couple of things about them, we were returned to crazy/runaway/lost/gaga-over-the-boy/helpless girl. What a mess. What a huge mess.I gave this 2 stars because at least it tried. Do yourself a favor and pass right over this one. There is plenty more great YA fiction to read. less
