review 1: Simone Campbell knows all too well how it feels to only be good enough to be the side bitch but this time NOTHING AND NO ONE CAN STOP HER FROM PLACING 1ST!There's never a dull moment in "Secrets of a Side Bitch" with the unpredictable, mysterious and twisted Simone. From the beginning til the EXPLOSIVE ENDING, I was completely engulfed in the psychotic and desperate attempts to go from being "Side Bitch" to "Main Bitch."Bravo!!! Awesome storyline! Can't wait to read the rest of the series!EbonyEyeCU Reading Approved & Recommended
review 2: Review from Ari of Divas Read Too:Since I am a book-a-holic and I have a one click addiction that my husband wishes he hadn't married into, I couldn't ignore this book. When it was released, it was the topic of conversation o
... moren Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, from the title to the contents. I, personally, don't really like the title. But the reviews were pouring in, one 5-Star review after another so I decided to one click it for 99cents and see what Secrets of a Side Bitch was all about. I finished this book a long time ago, but I've been hesitant about leaving a review because I've seen some other readers trolling reviewers who didn't like the book and I don't like bickering with "passionate fans" over my opinion. But my fellow Divas told me to "grow a set and write the damn review!" So here it is. I should have figured that the story was going to jump all over the place because the summary on Amazon is all over the place. There were a lot of characters and story lines in this book. Ms. Jessica could have written 2 or 3 different books with the number of people in this story. I'm not talking about secondary characters or friends of friends either...I'm talking about main characters. The problem with having so many characters is that it makes it impossible to pick one or two to be completely invested in. However, none of the characters, from Omari to Simone, had any good qualities that made me want to be invested in them. Omari and the other men make it hard to even care because they are completely disrespectful of women and obsessed with getting laid by any and everything. For a minute, I thought that Jessica Watkins was a pen name for a man. Actually, I still do. The way the men treated women in this book was so horrible that it's hard to believe that a woman wrote it. The way the women are portrayed also lead me to that conclusion. They had no respect for themselves, low self-esteem, and hardly any respect for other women, which is typically how men see women. As for the story itself, it's very predictable. Even the supposed twists can be seen coming from a mile away. The language of the book is a complete turn off. I'm no stick in the mud and I cuss like my daddy, but this was off the charts. One of the staples of the urban fiction genre is the hard-hitting street language, but this was over the top. It almost seemed like the author didn't want to challenge herself (himself???) to think of an alternate term instead of the N-word or a curse word which would have made this an easier read. Add the colorful language to an already predictable plot, and lackadaisical editing, I can't say that this was a 5 Star read...FOR ME. I felt no connection or interest in any of the main characters, the ending left me feeling like "finally, I'm done" instead of "Oooh, there's a part 2 coming!" and the way it kept jumping all over the place all influenced my rating. less
