review 1: What if "But I'm a Cheerleader" was a slightly-less-funny, far less campy book? That is the premise of "The Summer I Wasn't Me." And while it was a cute story, it felt a little too fluffy, a little too light. The characters did not get fleshed out all that much. Their motivations seemed odd
(Hey, my girlfriend broke up with me and I am devastated. How about I go to DE-GAYIFYING CAMP to get over that. Wat?)
and characters with interesting motivations for coming to camp, like Daniel, (who's there because he loves his religion and can't get it to gel with his sexuality) do not have their motivations explored much. And while I didn't find myself wondering about the author's sexuality or how much research she did for writing this book, I do find myself thin... moreking about it now. It's a solid novel, and I don't regret reading it, but if you have the choice between reading this book and watching "But I'm a Cheerleader" I'd recommend going with the latter.
review 2: I'd give this book 4.5 stars if I could take halves, but that's only because the character lines OCCASIONALLY felt a little...too neat, but other than that this book was fan-freaking-tastic. I really, really enjoyed it. I'm just gonna leave it at that for now, but in short--this book was good, the characters weren't stereotypes to me, they just WERE people-like, there were a few things I could critique, but nothing that left me feeling uninterested. less

Frustrating and often rage-inducing, but still a quick, engrossing read.

A bit on the short side the book was none-the-less an interesting read.
