review 1: Plot is your typical chick-lit style and to be honest not much happens throughout the book, but I couldn't put it down!! The characters were written in a way that you feel like you really know them and you begin to route for them to get what they all want.Jill Mansell is a great writer of girly fiction and this is by far my favourite of her books that I've read so far. The main male character is written as the perfect man- kind of makes you upset when you realise he's not real! ha!If you are looking for an easy going- summer holiday style girly book then I would definitely recommend this!
review 2: As with many Mansell books, this story begins with a newly single Tilly Cole impulsively acceptings a job offer in her friend’s small town as a "Girl Friday." She
... more meets Jack Lucas, a friend of her boss and of course, an attraction is there but there’s reasons, in this case a dead fiancee and rumors of his rampaging man-whore-iness. In the midst of all that, her boss, his family, her friend and her boyfriend, who has an estranged wife, and a few others have their own lives intertwined and mixed in and messed up.Ms. Mansell has her own formula that she mines to varying degrees of success. This book was similar to her other books, but I’ve found the ones that I can really enjoy tend to be ones where you get inside the hero’s head, and where the characters aren’t completely horrid people, but simply ones who’ve made bad choices. Knowing her formula pretty well now, you would think that I’d be disappointed or bored, but that simply isn’t the case. She’s able to draw me in, and for almost all the books, including this one, I’ve been sucked into reading them until the wee hours of the morning. That said, I’m still frustrated with the degree of romance - I’d like more and these books tend to be more about the little communities Ms. Mansell builds, with the romance being the tie that binds. There’s some scenes with sexual tension, a couple of kisses and rarely a love scene, but I still devour these books. I think it’s because the characters are well developed, even if the romance is slight. They’re frustrating and yet, I can’t stop myself from reading them, so I guess she’s doing something right. less
