review 1: Pure value in this book. If you're looking to increase your strength this won't disappoint. The 'training max' principle is worth the price of this book alone. If you're primarily a powerlifter/competitor, I wouldn't recommend this version - go for the '5/3/1 for Powerlifting' book instead,as it goes deeper into competition/peaking/tapering and all that stuff specific to the sport of powerlifting.
review 2: I personally dislike reading reviews of fitness books where the reviewer hasn't actually run the program but reviews it anyway. So I strive to only review fitness programs I've had first hand experience with. I've used 5/3/1 on and off for several years now, so I can speak to my own results. 5/3/1 is a reliable go-to strength builder for me. Positives:Flexib
... morele. You can work out 2 days a week, 3, or more. You can customize your program through the use of assistance lifts.Focuses on basic barbell lifts. Squat/DL/Bench etc. I gained strength on all my lifts. Perhaps the most important "positive". Leaves room for other forms of training, such as conditioning or playing a sport.Negatives:I'm reaching here, but it may take you a little bit of fiddling around to find the right customized set up for you. In regards to how you want to schedule it, what assistance work to use. Conclusion:Highly recommended. A simple program that works and does what it says it does. That's all I ask from a strength program. I don't care how the theory sounds, how long the book is, or how pretty the cover. Check out my review of Tactical Barbell by K Black for another effective program. less

Texas Method is simpler, but hell, this at least won't kill you.
