review 1: Protracted storyline that bordered on incredible at times. Characters not as well defined as some of her other books although there were still occasional brilliant sparkling dialogue characteristic of Goodman. Still somehow, despite this being a later book, it doesn't seem as polished as her other stories. Comfort showed her fickleness by trading her love for one brother with another in a heartbeat and Bode appeared petty at times in his treatment of his brother and his misplaced jealousy of the bond between the latter and their mother. Not sure why he distanced himself from his mother who seemed affectionate enough towards him and who was no more annoying than plenty of other society mums.
review 2: Very enjoyable read--romance, mystery, set in San Francisco a
... morefter the Gold Rush.Loved the main characters, Comfort and Bode, and great supporting cast. The plot flowed smoothly and I couldn't wait to get back to it any time I had to set the book down. Comfort is no shrinking violet, and Bode's smart and conscientious--they make an unstoppable duo :)Looking forward to reading more of Ms. Goodman's writing! less

fairly good. among the less-compelling of goodman's works, but still a fun read.
