review 1: I loved the first two books, but judging by the description on the dust jacket I did not think I would like this one. As much as I love Otter I thought a story about bards and Raven would be boring, but I was wrong! The conflict in this one was interesting, spooky, and tied in nicely to "Dragon and Phoenix." The only bad thing I can say about the book is that I would have liked to hear more from Pod. I really identified with the beast-healers and their brother's-in-fur. I could read a whole book on Pod and Kiga, but that's just me..
review 2: This book came out over 10 years after her most recent book. It was mostly worth the wait. It suffers from the same issues of her two prior books; it is hard to create true intrigue when your audience knows exactly wha
... moret happened (because we watched the villans do it in an earlier chapter). You spend a lot of of time shouting at the book and willing the characters to figure out the obvious (to you) clues. However, the characters, despite not figuring out the plot until the exciting conclusion, are likeable, interesting, and fun to read. It can get wearying flipping between so many viewpoints, but with so large a cast of charcters doing such diverse things it would be difficult to write it any other way. I do hope that she is considering writing more novels in this world. I would like to see Raven and Maylin's story in the future. less

Ten years waiting and I finally found it! And I loved it. It was worth the wait.
