review 1: Maggie and her family move to upper Wisconsin from Chicago to save money. Soon after their move, girls begin disappearing only to be found dead. The fears associated with the serial killer color the interactions Maggie has with the other teens in her community. Love triangles evolve and typical teen angst rears its head. Prepare for death and drama. The saving grace of this novel is that the ending isn't what was expected. In a way it make the book feel pointless, but I respect the author for providing the reader with something new.
review 2: The Vanishing SeasonByJodi Lynn AndersonWhat it's all about...Maggie and her parents move to a decrepit rundown house that they inherited in Door County, Maggie is home schooled...it's almost winter and she meets Pauline..
... more.the rich girl next door...and Liam...Pauline's childhood friend. Girls are disappearing in and around Door County and turning up dead. People are worried, staying close to home or moving away. Pauline is sent to her Aunt's house in Chicago and while she is gone...Liam and Maggie get close...very close. And then Pauline returns. Sigh! Why I wanted to read it...The book sounded strangely lovely and once I began reading it I was caught up in its reality as well as its "otherworldliness." Maggie is an only child...sort of practical and endearing and special all at the same time. What made me truly enjoy this book...There was mystery and just a bit of fright in this book right from the start. I had no clue who was "narrating" or whether or not that narrator was real. The revelation was surprising as well as sad. Why you should read it, too...Brace yourself for some sad bits as you read this book...it has reminders of The Lovely Bones in it and Maggie is very special. Pauline...not so much...but I venture to think that this is a book that will be remembered in a special way by most of it's readers. less

I adore this writer. This book didn't let me down. It's beautifully written, but very sad.

It did not end the way I thought it would. Rather surprising finish for me...
