review 1: I was a bit ambivalent about this book. If I'm being 100% honest, I didn't actually finish it, as it was due back to the library and I didn't feel like paying a late fee or purchasing a copy to finish it. I used to devour Picoult's works, but feel like she lost her touch a few books ago. The golden era between Keeping Faith and My Sister's Keeper is long gone and now her books just feel rather formulaic and long. I'd heard this one was great, but never got totally engaged. I probably would have given up sooner than I did if it hadn't been for a long flight.

There were so many parts during Minka's story that moved me to tears and I expected this at the end as well. I kept waiting for everything to come full circle and it just seemed to fall flat. I would give the part of the book with Minka's story a 5, 3 for the rest. less
