review 1: Loved it as always, Abercrombie is up there with GRRM as one of the best writers in this Genre. He puts the epic in epic fantasy. Currently I have read all his novels and even some of his short stories and can't wait for more from him, he has a lot to say about human nature and boy does he say it or rather show it well. This book to me actually had probably one of the happiest endings I've read from him and that's saying a lot since a lot of this book had some dark stuff in it.
review 2: Joe Abercrombie is an awesome writer. I loved the First Law trilogy, and this add-on did not disappoint. He has such a way of making people, who are doing awful things, complex, sympathetic characters. His characters think about the things they do; often trying to change and be... moretter themselves. The theme of redemption runs strong. The action may be too gory for some, and I can't say I'm a particular fan of gore, which says how much I love the books that I don't care that they're gory. I highly recommend this series, and plan to read everything else he has written. less
