review 1: I hate this book. It made me very upset. You take good characters with established histories then waste them in side roles as described by new and inferior characters. Shy and Temple are mediocre people. The former in particular is bland, flavourless, humourless nothing person. She might as well be a silent cipher protagonist for all she adds to this book. Temple is... weaksauce. I can't think of a better descriptor for what he is, the reasons behind his choices and the direction of his story.Another reviewer quoted Abercrombie's blog, in which he had stated that he felt burned out and uninspired while writing this. I regret that it shows.
review 2: Amazing! Abercrombie's books are awesome. I've enjoyed Red Country even more than The Heroes. It's a ligh
... moreter reading, if you can said there's something light about this book. I've also reconciled with Caul in this one, I think he made the correct decision at the end, despite I felt sad with the ending, but you have to be realistic and times are changing. But I've also lost the little simpathy I still had for Cosca, you know... I liked him because he didn't pretend to be a better person than he was and you know since the very begging how he is, but in the end he showed us he's even more despicable than you can thought. I also hope Abercrombie revisits this world because my most hated villain is still safe and sound and I found it unfair, but I suppose life isn't fair, so I'll have to deal with it. I highly recommend it!! less

This is probably my least favourite Joe Abercrombie book so far, but having said that I still think it deserves five stars! It was the Western theme of the book which wasn’t really my cup of tea, but I still enjoyed it.Lots of characters from his previous works appear in this book, a couple with major roles in the story, and as always it's linked in really well with his other books. Shy South, Lamb, Temple and the rest are all flawed and interesting characters with dark pasts they try to run from but that always seem to catch up with them in the end.As always with Joe this book is dark, funny and highly entertaining. It keeps you guessing and I highly recommend it to those who have read the other books set in the First Law world.
