review 1: For me, this book unleashed all the potential that was lurking in his previous books. I finished it in a day on the beach, not realizing until afterwards what a long read it was (a common danger with Kindle editions) Some of my enjoyment was most likely the accidental result of reading this a few weeks before Christmas in a very non- traditional atmosphere (summer Christmas countries still seem odd and unfestive ). I loved the story, the magic, and the small details (can the Search Engine books please be real?) that ensnared me, and I'm looking forward to his next one!
review 2: I would say a good 3.5 stars. Written by Stephen King’s son you can definitely tell Hill inherited his father’s talent for creating an intricately written horror tale, and like King
... more (at times) he got a little too verbose. I enjoyed much of it but felt it would have been more affective to me a hundred or so pages shorted. That said, this won’t stop me from checking out more of Joe Hill’s books. less

A fantastic journey into the Supernatural. Manx and Christmasland are scary places.
