The Testing
review 1: It has been a very long time since I stayed up until 3 AM reading a book. In fact, I believe the last time I did so was the night of the Deathly Hallows release, so it says a lot that I was up until 3 AM finishing up The Testing.I have seen a lot of reviews saying it's a carbon copy of The Hunger Games, and I can see where those reviewers are coming from, I can. However, I believe The Testing brings enough original material that it can stand alone away from Hunger Games.WHAT I LIKED: Cia. She's intelligent, kickass, funny at times, and does not have time for this romance shit until the very end (which I could have done without but we'll get to that). The whole concept of The Testing was cool as FUCK. I thought it was really fascinating how they choose the best and the brigh... moretest of the country. Not necessarily book-smart, but smart in other ways.WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: The romance toward the end bugged me. I'm not sure why every dystopian novel feels the need to have the main character find their ~*~one true love~*~ in the midst of the world going to shit, but there you have it, it's a thing.Will. I HATE Will with the passion of a thousand burning suns. Maybe I'm supposed to. Maybe I'll like him more in book 2. But right now, I hate him.
review 2: How would you feel if there was a chance you could be chosen for something that no one remembers? Well that’s what happened to Cia. She was a girl from Five Lakes Colony who got the opportunity to do the thing she had dreamed of her entire life. She was chosen for the Testing. The Testing is a process by which the government chooses the smartest newly high school graduate students to go on to college. This was all Cia had ever wanted as not many people from Five Lakes were ever chosen. Her father tells her something odd about what happens though that leaves her terrified. Refusing to go to the Testing though is considered treason and punishable by death. Cia must go. While she is there she falls in love with a boy named Tomas who was also chosen from among her colony for the Testing. Will her and Tomas make an alliance together? Will they both pass the Testing? Or will it be just one. You will have to read this amazing an action filled book yourself to find out the answers and many more. Over all I thought this book was amazing. I couldn’t put it down! Coming from me that means a lot! I felt like every page turn brought something totally unexpected. One thing that I kinda do but kinda don’t like is how much the end is like The Hunger Games. It was very similar to it but still had its own twists in there. This is a great book the I recommend everyone reads. less
