review 1: The author did a good job with the time period and acknowledged the social restrictions between classes which was important in the narrative. He increased the dramatic tension (even though everyone knows what is going to happen) by working back and forth between two points in the timeline to reach a riveting pinnacle. I didn't even know this is the same person that wrote "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" which was also sadly fascinating. Well done.
review 2: This is an excellent and entertaining book. It is a fascinating tale of the end of the Romanovs and the continued lives into old age of some of those close to them. The story centers on Georgy Jachmenev, the son of a peasant farmer who fortunately or unfortunately, is lifted to an elevated status in the
... more Czar's household and his eventual wife Zoya. The story alternates between their later years in life moving back towards and Georgy’s early years in life moving forwards towards that day in July 1918 when the Romanov dynasty ended. It is a wonderful piece of historical fiction that I could not put down. less

This is a book worth reading. It may be a bit heavy, but it`s still an amazing book.
