review 1: Excellent. Not a coherent, complete theory of things came to be, but an examination of the creation-evolution debate and what Genesis 1 and 2 might be saying. The appendices are more targeted discussions of certain topics within the creation-evolution discussion (theistic evolution, God of the gaps, the cosmic temple view, timeline differences between Genesis 1 and 2, etc.)I really like the way Lennox writes and thinks. There were certain passages I had to reread in order to get, but for the most part the arguments were very clear and understandable, without being dumbed down. He also is very even handed in his treatment of the subject, which is very welcome for this topic. I've not read widely on the subject, but this is certainly the most well thought out and satisfying... more book on the subject that I have read so far.
review 2: This is a book of non-fiction written by a scientist who argues that the Big Bang and age of the universe is old according to today's standard measures, but that these are in accord with the Genesis biblical account. In contrast to many "young earth" "Creation" scientist writings, I found many of the arguments in this book worthy of consideration, including some compelling arguments later in the book surrounding "evolution" vs the beginning of life, taking into consideration that DNA forms the basis of all known life. The author appears to give fair credence and treatment to atheist arguments without blanket dismissals, rather acknowledging that both non-creation and creation theories have their own problems to be considered.I didn't agree with everything this author says, however this is a thoughtful book worth consideration. less
