review 1: I picked this up because I know John (publisher at Yale) and was curious and came away very impressed though the subject matter was a bit beyond my usual sphere. This is a very Catholic novel (about a priest) with a wonderful sub-theme about music. It's quite philosophical and moving and I was blown away by the beautiful writing. But a bit hard to love unabashedly as there is a great deal of moral confusion and internal debate about religion which is not a particular interest.
review 2: I won this book from GoodReads First Reads. The story plot was excellent. There were a few parts that I thought were hilarious. My favorite part was when Dominic was racing with the undercover cop and got pulled over for drinking and driving recklessly. It was also a sad story. D
... moreominic lost the Church which was what worked for many years. He wasn't able to help Dolores from her own problems. It was a story that showed that everyone has there own problems and that you cannot help everyone. less

I don't know... I just wasn't buying it and a bit pretentious.

Some interesting themes. Surprised by sloppy writing, though.
