review 1: I enjoyed the theory of this book and I think Mackey & Sisodia have a strong argument for a new vision of capitalism. I also appreciate the extensive footnotes and supporting data included in the book. That said, there were times I found the writing style rather annoying. Mackey is HUGE on CSR buzzwords despite his dislike for the concept itself. If you wanted to make a drinking game out of every time the words visualize and conscious are used (or a variant thereof), you'd be hammered by the end of the foreword.
review 2: Though more philosophical than pragmatic, Mackey and Sisodia do an excellent job at proposing a "retaking" of capitalism based upon the ideal of generating "value" for society as a whole rather than generating "profits" of the type that Wall St
... morereet tracks. What Mackey and Sisodia lack in concrete strategies and procedures to accomplish the ideal of "generating value for all stakeholders" (meaning team members/employees, customers, suppliers, investors, society, and the environment), they make up with significant examples of real-life conscious capitalism cases that illustrate each of the tenets of this new economic philosophy. Ultimately, this is a must read for anyone aspiring to become an entrepreneur or a catalyst for good and progress in the world. less
