review 1: Eden at the Edge of Midnight ... a very impressive title. In fact one of the better titles I've come across. Unfortunately it doesn't really describe the story much at all.I'll say first that this genre is not my usual cup of tea. I read it on recommendation of someone and the title hooked me further into putting it at the top of my list.I'd describe it as YA Fantasy with overtones of a fairy tale, and in that context I suppose it's good. The only real flaws are that it could use some polishing in that some words are used again and again in the same paragraph. (Thesaurus time), other than that it is typo free and well written. The story was enjoyable enough to keep me reading and the characters interesting and well formed. I'd certainly recommend it to anyone who regularly ... morereads this genre.
review 2: The Vara of Yima (Garden of Eden) populated with the most fit men/woman had been sealed off from the world for 150 yrs. Sammy Ellis (f, Samantha, 16) meets Esther. Who related to her the tale of the Midnight Emerald bracelet (Emerald dial). Esther has the gift & holds the key to unlock the dial, but so far hasn’t been able to. It is written in the Avestan (language text). Esther wants Sammy to help her unlock the dial.Sammy takes the Midnight Emerald bracelet (Emerald dial) home & plays around with it & low/behold it explodes & a light appears. She is transformed still in her pajamas to another planet which appears to be a magical land of giant mushrooms. There also was a crimson mice chasing a large shiny beetle & a dinosaur. Sammy next comes across a village where she met a monster (dinosaur). She quickly took off & lost him. Mehrak Omid comes to save her. Come to find out Louis is the gastrosaur who accompanies Mehrak. He informed Sammy she was in the Fungi Forest not far from Honton Keep where the 3 are now headed. Mehrak & Louis (gastrosaur, Eggie) lived in/by the Golden Egg Cottage. Gisouie is Mehrak wife. Mehrak gives Sammy a detailed history lesson. Perseopia (realm, Vara of Yima) was once part of Earth & was sealed off by Yima (Shepard) some 1200 yrs. ago. There was also the great battle of Aratta the capital of Perseopia. Ahura Mazda (god) picked Panoplia the 1st. Sultan of Perseopia. Later it was Sultan Sanjar. Moran Razin was the regent. Moran & the Association of Blue Robes (mercenaries) arrested Sultan Sanjar & took over. Achaemen Mantis (sorcerer), Toler Ramone, Nassar, General Azim Azertash & the Order of the Black Fist overthrew Moran & the Association & restored the power back to Sultan Sanjar. Mehrak taught Sammy how to play Chaturanga. The trio (Mehrak, Louis, Sammy) finally arrived at Honton Keep & went to the Palace which housed the largest library in Perseopia. They were accompanied by Principal Hami Hootan (tiger, magus), Narok Grotta (2nd Chief General of the Marzban Guard), Leiss Rustam (Marzban Guard) & Borzin Vorna (Marzban Guard). They were all greeted by Regent Mustafa Shahab.More of the tale starts to unfold. A portal (gateway) was created by Ahura Mazda into Perseopia so that the chosen children could return to their homeland. But only the gifted can unlock the Emerald dial.Next stop on the adventure is supposed to be New Ecbatana. Will Sammy solve the mystery of the Midnight Emerald bracelet for Esther?Where might Gisouie be? Will the Rule Book ever be found? What will happen to all of the other many characters/creatures? LSD comes in all shapes sizes & different ways to apply it on objects/things in order to consume it. Please send Lewis Carroll a copy of this book wherever he is today. A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written YA magical fantasy paranormal/adventure book. It was very easy to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make great YA fantasy movie (Johnny Depp; Alice in Wonderland), animated cartoon, or mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.
